Time Zone

There is only one-time zone for all of India. India does not observe any form of daylight saving time or any other seasonal adjustments to the time. Climate

The average temperature in Guwahati in February is somewhat warm at 19 °C (66.2 °F). Afternoons can be hot with average high temperatures reaching 26 °C (78.8 °F). Overnight temperatures are generally quite mild with an average low of 11.9 °C (53.4 °F). The average daily temperature variation/ range in February is 14.1 °C (25.4 °F). The weather in February is somewhat parched. A paltry 21mm (0.8in) of liquid precipitates . Weather will be slightly cold but dry. The conditions are perfect for a visit to the city. The cold weather allows tourists to enjoy the city and visit places in and around Guwahati.


Clothing

February is one of the coldest months in Guwahati and is it advised to carry light woollen clothes along.


Language

Assamese and English are the city's official languages; other languages spoken across the city include :- Bodo, Nepali, Bengali, Hindi, Mishing, Rabha, Kachari and Meitei.


Banks & ATM's

Regular banking hours in Guwahati are typically 10:00 - 15:30 Hrs, Monday to Saturday. (2nd Saturday and 4th Saturday are closed). Most banks have automatic teller machines (ATMs) which can be accessed 24 hours a day, using bank debit or credit cards.


Smoking Laws

Smoking is not permitted by law in all indoor public spaces, including public transit, shopping malls, restaurants.

Signage will be posted to indicate the applicable smoking restrictions. Please smoke in officially designated areas only.


Alcohol Consumption

As a result of current legislation in the Indian states, it is generally illegal to serve alcohol in public places after 11:00 p.m. (23:00 hrs.). Therefore, as a general rule, kindly note that Absolutely No Alcoholic Beverages can be available at any bar (including those in hotels) after this cut-off time. Individuals who wish to continue to partake of alcoholic beverages after 11:00 p.m. (23:00 hrs.) may only do so via room service orders within hotels.


Taxes & Gratuities

Most purchases in the city are subject to a 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST)*

While India, culturally does not have a strong tipping tradition. In most of the tourist towns tips are expected at a standard 5 - 10%

The Organizers do not take responsibility for any individual, medical, travel or personal insurance. Participants are advised to secure their own insurance policies before departure from their countries, as required.

While every attempt is made to ensure efficient, trouble-free hospitality, including hotel accommodation, sightseeing and tours, participants are advised that no liability accrues to the Organizers in the event of any necessary modifications, including change in itineraries for tours due to delays or cancellations of flights/other exigencies beyond the Organizers' control.

Currency And Foreign Exchange

The currency in India is the Indian rupee (sign : / Rs.; code: INR). Currently-used banknotes come in denominations of Rs.5, Rs.10, Rs.20, Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.500 and Rs.2000. It is always good to have a number of small notes on hand, as merchants and drivers sometimes have no equivalent cash / coins to pay balance amount. Visitors can exchanges currency at major chartered banks or at offices of foreign exchange. But it is advised to have local currency on hand prior to arriving. Hotels, merchants, restaurants and suppliers accept US or other foreign currency at a pre-determined rate, which may differ from the daily rate posted by financial institutions. All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants.

Electricity

The voltage in India is 230 volts. You will require a voltage converter if you are carrying a device that does not accept 230 Volts. Wall sockets accept plugs with two or three round pins. Should you wish to use appliances of 110 volts, most Conference Hotels will provide adapters on request but it may be useful to carry your own for convenience. Most laptops have adapters that accept 110-240 volts, but will still need plugs of the type shown below.

Mobile Sim Card & Internet Service

Mobile phones in India operate using GSM technology and function within 900/1800 MHz ranges. If you already own a GSM phone and if your home country too operates within the same GSM range, you can use your phone in India. Popular GSM cell phone service providers in India, such as Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance or Aircel offer both post-paid and prepaid cell phone plans. If you are on a business Visti to India. a prepaid plan would be ideal. The documents that are required to obtain a new sim card or data card are two recent passports-sized photographs, a photocopy of your photo identity (Drivers License, PAN card, a photocopy of the first page of your passport & sometimes visa copy)
